Hello all,
This is going to be a long one. In the summer my car began to make a rat a tat noise. Upon inspecting it, I looked and saw the pulley in the front all the way down shake when the noise happened. It would happen mostly on idle with or without the a/c going. Now it goes all the time and just sounds like a bad bearing of sorts. There is no huge rattle in the pulley just constant movement but not as severe as before. From what I read I believe I need a new a/c clutch and pulley. My compressor still works and blows very cold. So here is what I am thinking. Why buy a new compressor at 550 and then spend 8.5 hrs on labor if I don't really have too. I am so poor now being a college student and all. So here is my idea. Buy a used compressor take of the a/c clutch and pulley and have it installed on my car. I know I would save money parts wise, but what about labor wise. Would it be a much faster job? I can't see it taking 8.5 hrs to replace a pulley and a/c clutch. Tell me what you guys think. Are there any better approaches? Thanks guys!
