shut down secondary air injection (GaryG or others)

Hi Guys,
I have a 96 900S with that often discussed secondary air injection system. I want to shut this system down and I read posts by GaryG who suggested to pull the relay C, which I did. Thanks GaryG!! Now my problem is that in the first 2 minutes my cars sounds as if it would need a new muffler, because apparently the secondary air valve still opens. Can I pull fuse 17 (I believe that is the right one under the hood) to prevent the valve from opening without getting a CEL? Otherwise, what other options do I have for shut down? I was also thinking of removing the hose which goes from the valve to the exhaust manifold and cork it with a big screw or something like that. I want to do as little as possible to the system so that in the worst case I can go back and activate the system for emmission test. I am not as brave as GaryG to remove the entire system.
Thanks so much for your input
Markus
