Search the archives, there is lots of info on this. But some suggestions:
Convertible - NG900 tops used multiple electric servos which have some reliability issues. 9-3's use the hydraulic mechanism which the C900 had. Much more reliable.
Suspension - Half way thru the 1995 model year the front suspension was redesigned due to an incurable steering wheel vibration problem at 60-70mph. If you get a pre-1995.5 car, you can upgrade to the later style suspension with a kit available from Saab, about $600.
Shift linkage- upgraded in 1996 to much better design. Earlier cars can be upgraded to the 1996-on linkage.
Clutch cable- All NG900 except for 1998's used a cable clutch which is a constant problem (search on this, you'll see thousands of posts). You can buy a 1998 or a 9-3 to avoid this problem, or you can install a hydraulic clutch upgrade on an earlier model, but this is quite costly.
Plastic idler pulleys for serpentine belt - replace them when you get your car. Carry a spare set in the trunk.
Hope this helps.
