Have I Had the Incorrect Dipstick for 5 Years?

I have a 2000 base model 9-3 sedan with 65,000 miles.
Recently (see post below), my engine oil dipstick expoded when the yellow cap fractured. I dutifully ordered a replacement from eeuroparts and kept the original in place using little binder clips (which work great, btw).
When I got the new dipstick, I held it next to the original version before replacing the old with the new. I noticed about an inch difference in length (I don't recall which was longer but if that is important I can check).
Eeuroparts sent me part number 9170671 which they list for "93 all". Saabsite has the same part number for the 9-3.
My original dipstick is part number 9172305, which saabsite notes as the part number for the 9-5.
Please tell me I haven't been driving for 5 years and 65,000 miles using the wrong dipstick. The part number difference is no big deal, but the one inch difference in length is alarming.
Thanks
