Whether or not it is prone to repair is probably an individual car issue. Some of the responses are very favorable. Following is a list of what has happened to mine:
DI cassette and new software (dealer picked this one up)
Fuel pump blew off (before recall; covered by warranty)
Died and left me on the road between Austin/Dallas. Blew vacuum lines off of throttle body.
Third set of tires: currently have Michelin Pilot All Season and they seem to be lasting >20K miles.
Constantly buildup in the TB causing stutter during idle even though running Techron cleaner and Chevron Super Octane. SAABs carb cleaner seems to have done the trick. Picked up a bottle from the dealer at the 60K warranty. This stuff is supposed to be poured in through carb openings, etc. Seems to have cleaned up.
From the discussions, be aware of oil sludge, MAF, and burned pistons and god knows what else.
All that said, the Viggen is a great car to drive once you hit 30 mph. Off the line it is not great but 30-120, absolutely awesome.
Especially with the top down.
