...even before discovering that my WIS program malfunctions!
I just want to make it clear that I'm TRYING to have documentation...it's not my fault...
Further disclaimer: this is a $500 car with a further $225 into it so far. Overall budget: less that $1000. Goal: Cheap, leak-free, expensive-looking beater. (and it's got great speakers)
I'm looking to pull the oil pan out. It's loose and ready to go but the subframe's in the way.
I've read other witnesses describing a partial letdown of the subframe, so I've removed the right front subframe mount and seriously slackened the two rear ones, and tried some gentle prying of the front end to see if I could rotate the oilpan out -- no luck so far, for fear of jeopordizing car or mechanic.
I have an engine support beam custom made for a 9000, and maybe it will work on this car. I can't completely drop the subframe or I'll squash my Mickey Mouse exhaust, so minimal movement is preferred. These are various welded pipes, original joinery long gone. Separation of rusted bolts impossible.
I plan on leaving the rear two subframe mounts loosely in place to control the descent and also to aid in lining things up for reassembly.
If it all goes well I can lower the subframe a few inches in the control arm area to give me room to rotate the oilpan out. All without removing the exhaust, although it is released from the turbo and front O2 sensor for maximum dangle potential.
All this to cure the oil leak that resulted from the wrong sealant -- 518 required on 4 cylinder cars! Previous mechanic, again, not my fault!
I don't mind oil leaks until they start to stain the ground. This one's bad.
