Viggen shifter like mud

I was driving my viggen yesterday on a back road and I ran into a problem with my shifter. I was messing around, toeing the accelerator to feel the boost coming out of a corner when I believe I hit a bump in the road that induced some wheel hop. I eased off the gas and grabbed the next gear, as I did I noticed the shifter didn't feel right. The shifter now feels like it's in mud, epecially when moving it side-to-side and forward. Shifting from 1-2 or 3-4 (toward the rear of the car) is initially sticky, then the shifter moves freely, going the other way is feels smooth initially, then the shifter gets really heavy. I can get all the gears. At first I thought maybe I'd broke a motor mount, but the engine doesn't appear to be obviously skewed or anything. Also, there's no strange whining or vibration from the tranny when in gear, so I suspect the problem is in the linkage somewhere. If it matters, I have a Genuine Saab poly transmission mount. Any ideas about what I might have bugger up?
Is this the motivation I've needed to spring for a short shifter :-) The shifting on my tranny has always sucked, despite the poly mount and full synthetic lube. I hear short shifters are a big help.
