The idle speed variations may be a sign that the idle air control valve (IAC) needs to be cleaned. Many do this DIY. And clean the TB bore as well. If you attempt, search and read for further info.
Local mechanic can do this and the belt. Pullies that are dry spin very freely and must be replaced. Very easy to inspect on a turbo, air intake might be in the way for non-turbo.
Clean injectors with Techron Cocentrate and inspect/regap or replace the plugs. You have a 10.5:1 compression ratio if this is a non-turbo engine. Fouled injectors and/or combustion chambers can be a problem. Techron also cleans the combustion chambers. If you have never used this before, get the large 20 ounce bottle for about 10 US$.
Check tire pressure and note that higher pressures will save fuel.
Check that spare tire has proper pressure. Out of sight and out of mind often means out of air. If you carry a electric air pump and a pressure guage, then you can be ok if that happens.
If a turbo engine, a spare or new DIC would be a good idea. If traveling through the mountains, if you do not have snow tires and it snows, you may be turned away. If going through mountains, downshift on downgrades to absorb some of the energy. If you go downslope on the brakes you could easily trash them and then possibly have a wreck from brakes that don't. Some of the pull outs and senic stops on downgrade runs are for you to stop to let the brakes cool off... which can take a while.
