I thought I would post this job for others who have not done it. And, who took my name lms?
1). Take the fill plug out first. I used a 6 inch and 2-3 inch extensions to crack it open.
2). Next crack open the over-fill plug. It's easiest to jack car up and remove driver’s side wheel. I used same config as above.
3). Now it's time to take the drain plug out. I used a 6 inch allen wrench (I did not have to cut it down to fit). I was not able to crack it using my hand/arm and I'm pretty strong.
So here's a tip, with the allen wrench in the hole, go to the front of the car slide your legs under car (make sure car is stationary-I also put the wheels under the car incase stands fall). Place your foot on allen wrench and push like hell. Works like a champ.
4). Drain fluid, about 2 quarts will come out. On my 2002 it came out super clean and red. The magnetic plug had just a tad of microscopic shavings. I hated the fact that I could here the tranny/drive shafts more then the motor so I opted to go with Redline MTL 90. I first filled tranny with cheap synthetic oil and ran car with front wheels off the ground for 30 seconds. I then drained fluid again and filled up with MTL 90, ran car again for 30 seconds and drained. I then pulled sight plug and filled up with MTL 90 until it came out of plug. Put plug back in, and made sure all 3 plugs were tight.
5). I then took car for a ride and noticed no difference in shifting, but I do live in Ca. One thing I did notice is that the tranny is now not as loud.
6) From a scale of 1-10, I would give this a 3. Only because it takes a while to perform this job if going from the 2002 Saab fluid to another or visa versa.
