Always in sport..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Sport Mode question on 2002 SE, Limey Tim, Wed, 9 Nov 2005 07:59:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I always drive a Saab turbo in sport mode. Once upon a time the first manufacturers like BMW to offer sport mode locked you outa' top gear, 1st to 3rd only, but not anymore. Sport not only reprograms the tranny for higher revs before shifting and snappy downshifts with less prodding, but it also phsically or I should say electrically increase the throttle pedal ratio, that is more throttle for a given amount of push.
Makes the car feel much snappier, much more satisfying to stick shift folks, anybody actually, and no real loss in fuel economy. Accelerating up to speed with more throttle is actually more fuel effecient. Lower fuel economy from aggressive driving will occur with or without being in sport, but you'll enjoy it a whole lot more with the sport button pushed and the sport icon displayed above the shift quadrant.
Unfortunately with a Saab there is no default to sport. That is you have to select it everytime you put the car in drive, but that's a tiny issue.
