Yeah, I think you're good. You'll be in trouble if you let the oil drop all the way down to the LOWER end of the dipstick range.
Your 2000 vent is probably the same as my 2001 came with originally. I had the vent mod done (not sure which version??) which moves the PCV vacuum hose over to the dipstick/oil-fill tube. I think they also enlarged one of the holes in the oil breather box behind the block.
Anyway, it didn't help the startup smoke. But I began noticing more moisture condensation in the dipstick tube when it's cold. A couple weeks ago I put the PCV vacuum hose back where it was originally. Still pretty cold outside, but the moisture seems to be gone. I didn't reverse the enlarged hole in the breather box.
Take off the big rubber tube from your air cleaner. On top of the aluminum elbow that turns down to the turbo, there's a steel line with a banjo fitting. Look inside the elbow for evidence of oil dripping from there. If so, it seems to blow thru the compressor, & pool in the hose just before the intercooler. Every so often some gets entrained & burned. This should be relatively harmless compared to turbo-bearing seals.
I still keep telling myself to take the exhaust pipe off the turbo & inspect the bearings. Someday...
But 'overfilling' the oil might explain why it comes thru that breather tube. I'm gonna try to keep my oil a little below the max line, & see if it gets better.
