I would strongly recommend that you put the worn ones on the back. If you have to brake in a hurry, or swerve to avoid something, even at fairly low speed the back end will swing out. ABS is great in most situations, but in many ways it doesn't help in snow, especially with worn tyres, because it takes forever to get enough grip to bring the car to a halt without locking the wheel, and meanwhile it doesn't stop you sliding sideways. When the worn tyres are on the front, you quickly get a feel for how much (or how little) grip you have when cornering, and it's easy to just back off the throttle to stop the front drifting. The rear wheels just follow on round on the line you wanted. If you live some place where you only see a dozen other cars a day, and you have plenty of space to fling the car around like those Swedish rally drivers of the Seventies in the old V4's, sure, put the good ones on the front and have fun. You certainly won't get stuck anywhere. But if you're driving in traffic like most folks, the back is safer, IMHO.
Regards,
Andy
