I just installed Infinity kappa 693.7i speakers in the rear over this weekend and have come to a few conclusions...
Preface- Saab 9-3SE '99
I put in reference components in teh front a few months ago, powering the door speakers with the saab amp in the passenger footwell (premium saab sound package) and put the tweeters at the top end of the a-pillars. I kept the factory dash speakers in place, which I plan on replacing shortly.
I then put an Infinity 7540a 4-channel amp in the back and wired the tweeters and dash speakers into the front 2 channels.

After getting around to ordering the 6x9s and installing them, I have noticed a considerable difference in sound quality and bass response. As I increase the bass boost in the rear speakers, I've noticed a disturbing amount of distortion or something -I'm not very well versed in car audio- it just doesnt sound right, or as good as I'm sure it can sound.
I'm thinking, almost certain, that it is because of the fact that the rear enclosure that surrounds the speakers has the car body on the outside, and the flimsy, carpet-like fabric on the inside. The fabric being the problem I'm assuming. I'm still considering what to do exactly, but at least the problem is located. I'm thinking either adding dynamat to the fabric, or putting a speaker baffle under the speaker. That or maybe building some sort of enclosure, although I want to resolve the issue with the least amount of time/cost/trouble as possible.
The door speaker sound incredible, great bass- I really would like to get the rear speakers to have just as solid a bass sound and still throw out the highs as it is now. I was originally thinking of putting a sub in the back, and still may, but I don't want the overkill-boomboomboys noise. If I can tone the rears right, I'll be happy.
Just my 2 cents.
More on my audio upgrade later, hopefully. If I ever get around to it :-/
