Another story, I was sitting on the front steps of my apartment building one day talking to my neighbor when some guy was trying to parallel park his Yukon on the street. He, of course was lazy and left his hitch in, backed into the car behind him, squarely breaking the lower grille in the bumper. We talked to him about it after he got out of his truck and acted like nothing happened. He said he knew whose car it was and that he would tell her, yeah right. We called the police and reported it as a hit and run. If he wouldn’t have left his hitch in his bumper simply would have hit the other car’s bumper; no harm, no foul.

Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. If you’re going to get rear ended, its likely not going to be your fault. So what does it matter? Why wantonly destroy someone else’s car for, likely, their simple mistake? All this action, or lack there of, does is create needless greater financial hardship for others while increasing insurance premiums for everyone else. Who cares if your car gets a little crunched up, that is what insurance and a good reputable body shop are for. I shutter at the thought of the unnoticed damage that could occur to my truck if a car were to impact my receiver hitch at any speed.
