O2 sensor may not be your problem

Considering that your problem was preceeded by a DI Cassette failure at highway speed it likely that unburned fuel caused the inside of you catalytic converter to melt.
Your OBD2 system periodically checks the front O2 sensor raeding against the rear one. When they read the same it's a sign that your converter is not doing it's job and it triggers the Check engine light. The code is telling you it is getting a bad sensor reading, which is not the same thing as a bad sensor.
I had the identical problem on my 2001 9-3 after a DIC failure, and the converter was replaced under the 8yr/80,000 mile federal emmissions control warranty. The problem was fixed without changing any of the sensors.
It sounds like your indie may not be up to speed on diagnosing Saab problems.
