ACC blower motor always on - relay?

Our '99 9³ developed the always on blower motor problem last week. We pulled the fuse until I could take a look at it, which I did this weekend. Following dbruce's directions (link below), I pulled out what I think is the relay, to clean it up. (Ours is milky white plastic, not blue as dbruce describes. There IS a small blue electrical component potted into the plastic.) There's a large 2-wire block connector captured on one end & two individual wire connectors on the other end, with the small blue component in between.
The two individual wires' blades were visibly dirty, while the blades for the connector block looked pretty clean. I cleaned everything up with emery paper & scotchbrite, then sprayed it down with electrical parts cleaner & let it dry. After reinstalling the relay & the fuse, the blower still runs.
Am I overlooking something? Am I working on the wrong part? Or is it simply time to plunk down $100 for a new relay?
