I¡¦m a proud owner of a¡¦01 9-3SE conv. currently have 52K on it. Unfortunately, I drove over a ¡§gigantic¡¨ pothole last spring in Mass., costing me over $1000¡¦s to replace the drive side lower control arm, inner axle shaft, and 2 Viggen rims. The car has been running OK until 2 months ago. I found the steering was unusually stiff most of the time (70% at low speed). I thought it could be an alignment issue¡K brought it to a dealer to do the alignment. They told me that the alignment was off, in addition, the drive side front strut had excessive play and needed to replace in a pair. They quoted me $1400 total for both front side. I¡¦m little upset about this case, because right after the pothole accident, I could feel something was not right in the drive side strut area. I asked them if the strut needed to be replaced, but the dealer said it was fine. Now they want me to pay more for something they didn¡¦t fix right at the first place. I thought getting a major repair done by dealer would give me peace of mind, unfortunately, this is not the case.

Anyway, I looked around and found a mechanic who¡¦s a former Technician of a Saab dealer. He quoted me $900 to replace both front end struts with Boge. Not sure if this is a good price??? Since I¡¦m going get this fix, I would like to know besides the OEM, and Boge, what other options do it have? I¡¦m not a ¡§speed racer¡¨, I probably would stay away from the performance suspension (plus, there¡¦re thousands of potholes in Mass.). However, I found there¡¦re few suspension kit (struts & springs) deals on the internet, which look attractive. Any advice? Should I also replace the rear end as well? In addition to the struts, what else should I consider to replace/upgrade, spring, spring support, bushing and etc? Really appreciate the help.
