Replaced engine? why and with what, i.e. rebuilt, new, does he have proof?
The problems on this car, from what I've learned from this forum and having a 94 900s are: clutch cable breaks, pulley breaks, my abs module was dead, clocksprings fail, shift linkage is sticky.
There are upgrades for the clutch cable (hydraulic or manual adjusting) and shift linkage from a 98.
Other than that the car has been great to me. Feels really solid and safe. If you can do basic work yourself go for it. I got mine on the cheap becuase it needed brakes/rotors and the abs was dead. did the brakes myself ($140 parts) and got a module ($49) from the junk yard. runs great now. If I had to pay a tech for that would have been $$$$.
There have been reports of later models developing sludge. Ask him if he is willing to pull the valve cover for you.
