Chonic problem on the OG9-3 convertibles. There was even a campaign (has since expired) to fix the problem on the older cars. The campaign had us drill a hole in the plastic pipe and metal top support, then insert a sheet metal screw. There was even a drill guide that Saab sold to the dealers.
The later models had a plastic retainer that tried to hold the plastic pipe. I see these fail all the time.
I just drill a new hole and use screw.
I don't use the guide as it is a PIA to setup.
I set the top at about 2/3 open. Saab sells a bar that goes between the front header latch and receiver just for this purpose.
With the top in this position, the headliner will drop enough to allow access to the affect area.
Fit the plastic pipe on the metal support and center it side to side.
USE A NEW DRILL BIT of a size to work with your screw. BE CAREFULL, if the drill slips off you could go thru the top!!!
Put in your screw and go do the other side.
Good luck,
Steve C
