was a T40 (balance shafts are T50) - couldn't get T40 to budge, tried the T50's and even with tension and me standing on the block to keep the think from lifting it just jumps the chain - went back to the idler and tapped to make sure seated, then turned - completely took out the teeth - my T40 looks fine but there's now a circle in the bshaft idler - I was pissed... Looks like I'd have to cut the chain at this point so I'm putting it off -
already reassembled almost everything - if I don't sell it in a couple of years I'll take the cover back off and have a new chain and the tensioner guide ready to install...
I still think the little piece that's gone from the tensioner side on the cam chain changes the departure angle by less than a degree, so the tensioner will need 1 click at most to compensate, and because it's the trailing edge, it will eventually wear to the new angle - may wear out that guide slighly faster - only on snap shut throttle am I wondering what it will do if anything - well since my pistons are already dinged and the head (on 3&4) I'm going to run with it and see what happens - it may well self- destruct at some point (really doubt it) but most likely make changing the timing side out early, at which point I will probably replace the dinged pistons etc. etc. anyway - should have a good engine to drop in and the old one will become an upgrade project at that point...
I've seen 2.3 pistons and head put on but that's for another day...
thanks again for the help!
