Manual AC:

Fuse 3, at end of dash, unswitched power, goes to the speed control knob, then through 4 heavy (power: orange, green, yellow, white) wires to the resistor pack mounted on the motor (for cooling of the resistors).

When a resistor fails, that will kill lower speeds, but the highest setting bypassed all resistors. So when a resistor pack fails, one often can run the fan at the highest speed.

Check the #3 fuse which is a see-through type. There should be a fuse puller in the fuse panel to remove the fuses.

The wiper arms and cowl can be removed, just as you change the cabin air filter, and the fan motor and resistors are then accessible. One can check the connector for contamination and corrosion. With the fan turned on, one can probe for voltages on the connector and resistors with a multi meter. Radio shack and others sell these and they can be inexpensive. A beginner should not get one that measures amps/current, as these are very easily damaged by improper use as the amp setting creates a short circuit. -Or get one that is fuse protected and remove the fuse.

If dead on highest fan setting, the most probable problem is the connector.
