PVC Nipple broke

I was checking for a noise which I think is associated with my idler pulley. I pulled the resonator off and accidently broke the PVC nipple where the smaller hose attaches. The smaller hose is brittle and coming apart. I am having a hard time figuring out where that smaller hose goes to and I am wondering if much would happen if I just sealed off the smaller part of the "y" on the pvc nipple and ran the car without it. Thoughts?
