won't start trouble shooting - Anders?

My wife's '97 900 wouldn't start one morning about 10 days ago - no signs or symptoms previous to that - and I've been chasing the problem on and off since.
Engine is cranking but not firing. Thus, I assume, battery is good. I also assume DI cassette is good because it works in my '97 900 (convenient to have).
After letting it sit a few days and posting last week I followed Anders advice to listen for the fuel pump buzzing to check crank position sensor and fuel pump circuit. I did this with the charger set on start, heard the buzzing, cranked the ignition and it fired and ran. I then drove the car 15 minutes to my friend's house (also a Saab guy), turned off car, it refired, turned off again and dead. No fuel pump buzzing. No start your car.
I'm back to scratching my head a bit, but wondering if the fuel pump relay is the most likely culprit? As stated, I'm ruling out DI cassette and don't think it is ignition switch either (my dash lights and all work fine). Could it be the relay? the pump itself (doubt it b/c I figure if it crapped out it wouldn't heal itself and work again)? crank position sensor? or the computer in the vehicle?
Input & advice welcome. Also, I don't have a Haynes manual (can probably purchase) but there's a bunch of relays in the group under the steering column any easy way to ID the fuel pump relay?
Thanks,
Dave
