I am looking at buying a 1996 900se turbo saab. It is 4 door with a 5speed and 103k and only cost $800.
Now the bad. It is cheap as it does not run. He froze the radiator and it overheated. He said it was turning over before but does not now after sitting for a year.
So my planes, if I get it are to...
1. Remove head and replace stem seals, gaskets (head, intake, etc...), and have head machined.
2. Remove pistons and replace the rings and probable the rod and main bearings.
3. Replace the timing chain and balance chain.
I am trying to do all this without removing the engine. I will have a engine crane but not a whole lot of room to remove engine as it seems it has to be dropped.
Now I see someone was able to do the timing and balance chain without removing the engine here
Has any one else done this? Still not 100% how he did it so I will be re-reading it again.
So any advice or even if I should do this at all would be good. Does the head crack easy when heated, is this even worth it, what else should I look at replacing, etc...???
Thanks
