If so, I don't really think you did any damage.
The really bad damage happens when all the coolant have boiled out through the pressure relief valve inside the expansion tank cap and your engine is bone dry.
If you still have coolant surrounding the cylinder walls and inside the cylinder head, it can take some beating even though the coolant isn't circulating through the radiator.
