My 99 93 convertible with 69k miles has been virtually trouble-free until I started developing turbo overboost with hard acceleration. I took it to the local indie who, after having my car for two days, changed the boost valve and told me it was fixed. On the way home from the shop, it starts to overboost again. Back to the shop for another 2 days. They can't figure out what is wrong. They say the "accuator(?)" is okay and wastegate adjustment didn't work. Now they're saying that the control module might be the problem, but they won't know until they access and test it, etc, which they claim is a major ordeal. This all sounds odd to me but what do I know.
Much to the credit of the indie, he has offered to put everything back together and reinstall the original valve and refund my money ($350 so far). I feel bad to take the job away from him, but he really doesn't seem to mind. Maybe it is too much of a headache for him and not worth the money and aggrevation. I took him up on it, and will have my car back in the morning. If I can get my car and my refund without a battle I'll be quite impressed. I'll have to bring them doughnuts and coffee, or do something nice for them once this is over. In the meanwhile, I getting depressed. I've been driving a crappy Mitsubishi rental car and I'm really missing my car and fearing that its going to cost a small fortune to fix.
So, I will be taking it up to the dealer (Continental Saab in Oceanside, CA) next week to let Kenny (beloved master mechanic) have a crack at it.
Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Could this be caused by a faulty contol module? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Mike Lynch, I guess I'll see you next week. I'll stop by the showroom and say hi and check out the '06 models (although I'm NOT buying; I'm still in love with the 05 9-5 wagon and not yet ready to give up on my convertible).
