98 900SE

I've been having random misfire problems lately, and I have to drive accross the country next week, so I've been going over the PCV system and anything related with a fine tooth comb.

I noticed a loud ticking noise coming from behind the glovebox when I was stopped at a stop light.

I replaced the ELCD Purge valve this morning. I was going to replace the carbon / Charcoal canister this afternoon, BUT...

IT'S MISSING!

I confirmed that there are two hoses connected to the ELCD purge valve. One connects to the back of the throttle body. The other runs down the firewall to the undercarriage, then jogs towards the fuel tank.

I looked under the back of the front passenger wheel well cover. Above the passenger door turnlight, there is a metal bracket, WITH NOTHING CONNECTED!!

So....

A few questions.

What effect will this have on my car?

Will this cause me to fail an emissions test? I'm moving from a state where emissions tests aren't required to a state where they are required.

Could this in any way contribute to my misfire problems?
