So I found a 2002 9-3 hatch with 43000 miles at a Saab dealer about 1 hour away from my home, and took it for a drive. The salesman let me take it home overnight and I return it tomorow.
They want $16,995 for it. They don't seem very flexable on price. It is a CPO, with the warranty expiring on Oct. 1, 2007.
Automatic, SE premium.
Car is lovely to drive, especially on the highway. Very smooth. Some wind noise. Trans is super-smooth and the performance is effortless. No obvious issues mechanically. Everything seems to work properly.
I noticed a few issues which I will see if the dealer will correct if I agree to buy it. The long handle which you use with the jack appears to be missing. Also, of more concern, I noticed that the spare, tools, and the carpet covering them were damp. Do 9-3's have leak issues? There was no standing water, but they were definately damp, like heavy condensation.
The drivers seat belt seemed to have a lazy retractor.
Other than that, the car is great.
Here are my questions:
Should I rule out the car because of the two little issues I found?
Is the price reasonable?
Anything else I should take under consideration?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the length.
