OK, guys. I have some learnin for ya. On the 1996 SAAB 900S there is an issue that can be a cheap fix if you know the stuff. Knowing stuff is good. Anyway, my reverse lights werent working. So, stupidly, I replaced the range switch. That didnt fix it. I then got the multimeter out and ran the wires down. It read that the wire was shorted on on the frame. I ran out of time to fix it and took it to the shop. They checked it out and discovered that it was a little known relay under the drivers side kick panel. They called SAAB for the relay and SAAB said "What relay?" Which is what I said since it aint on the wiring diagram that I had from the Haynes book. Anyway, my mechanic asked the guy to look it up on there parts database and there it was. A cheap little relay about the size of a fuze. So, if you have a NG900S and the reverse lights have quit, test the range switch before replacement. It's easy to test. Take a tiny pin and stick it through the white and black wire coming out of the range switch. Connect the multimeter to that sucker on the + side. Sit down in the car, start it, hold the brakes, put the car in reverse and connect the - side of the multimeter to ground. If the needle jumps your range switch is fine. That will save you nearly 300 bucks, if you do the install. More if you take it to the shop. Then, if the W/B wire shows a positive connection to the white wire at the reverse lights, and a positive to ground, you have a bad relay. It's plug and play.
