'00 9-3SE trouble returning to idle

I just replaced the PCV valve (and air filter) on my car. Now it has trouble returning to idle, bogs and almost stalls before settling to a low idle (800-900rpm according to the tach). It idles fine once it has settled, and goes to idle fine if I can ease down to it. From the low idle I can goose the throttle slightly and it will return to a normal idle. The bogging/stalling problem happens when I step on the clutch from 2000 rpm or so.
It starts easily (cold start or hot start), idles smoothly at ~1100rpm, drives smoothly with plenty of power.
Two suspects that I have:
1) PCV valve is sticking open
2) vaccum leak, I had to remove the vac hose on the throttle body to get the PCV valve installed. The hose is old and needs replacing and I may have caused a leak when reinstalling it.
Anything else that I should be checking for? Can I test the PCV valve by disconnecting it and plugging it to see if the problem disappears?
Thanks for any advice!
