Any pad choice will be able to lock up the brakes, so the only change is mostly petal feel. Given that, your emergency stopping distance is determined by your tire traction, not your brake pads or hardware. So you probably need better tires more that better pads/rotors. The exception is repeated braking in track work or mountains where things get hot enough for the pads to out-gas. The pads can float on those gas films and that is called gas fade. Another form of fade is when the caliper pistons get so hot that the brake fluid boils. That is very rare for a street vehicle.
Slotted/drilled pads can make noise that some do not care for. They also shorten pad life and can cause rotors to crack. They do help with recovery time for wet brakes, but experienced drivers are aware of this and brake early to warm and drive off moisture. Dimpled rotors are less prone to cracking than drilled.
Some pads with polymer binders (kevlar and such) feel nice because with some initial heat, the binder acts a bit sticky and develops strong friction. Downside is that for some, uneven pad residue deposits on the rotors can feel like a warped rotor. That can be fixed with some repeated hard braking events to burn the rotors off. Similar hard braking can be used to season the pads to reduce this tendency. See the link for more info.
I don't know that to say about ceramic pads I have never used them. I will point out that the 'ceramic' buzz word is also a very strong marketing tool and one can claim to have ceramic pads if any amount of ceramic material is added to the composition. Have ceramic in the name guarantees nothing at all and some ceramic pads will suck compared to some good pads that have no ceramic adjectives. Some think ceramic conveys some magic properties like space shuttle tiles, that is complete nonsense. Ceramic/carbon rotors on some race cars is also not anything that applies to anything that you will be purchasing.
