Tie rod ends caused uneven tire wear, replace tires? Posted by Caarma [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
As I reported a while ago, I had a slight pull and my local mechanic rotated the tires but it pulled much worse. So I had him switch them back and it didn't seem so bad. Then recently, I wanted my front end aligned, but PepBoys said they couldn't because my outer tie rod ends were bad. I bought parts and they replaced them, re-rotated the tires so that the better ones are on the front, and it still pulls. (Of course they didn't test drive or tell me). I called and they said it is due to uneven tire wear. What's confusing is why do the more evenly worn tires still cause pulling and what should I do about the tires now? Apparently, the bad ones are on the back, but I'm not so sure, (the car is not with me for a few days).
I was thinking of buy a jack and stands and experimenting with different tires in different locations for the optimal set-up. I also have one 30% worn spare tire which I can throw in the mix. Then when the tires get really bad, I'll replace all four.
Any advice is appreciated in advance,
Atul
