I have a 95 900se that I purchased used that doesnt have a 3rd or 4th gear. 1st,2nd,5th and reverse work. I bought the car several months ago but finally got around to picking it up. Previous owner sold it to me because he was told it needed a transmission because it was stuck in second. He was going to bring it to me on a tow dolley but couldnt back the car up. I sent a tow truck to take it to the dealer and all of sudden the car was able to be put in neutral. The dealer charged me $100 for a diagnostic plus $81 for a tow and said that the car needs a brake job and will only shift into 1st,2nd, 5th and Reverse. I drove the car from connecticut to philly area. When I got home I noticed that the shifter linkage bushing was toast and not on the mount hole. I replaced the bushing and still no 3rd or 4th. I also pulled on the clutch cable but couldnt get it to click.
Also I tried aligning it still no 3rd or 4th. I can shift into 3rd or 4th easily but I get nothing like it is in neutral. one other thing which scares me. I can dont have to lift the shifter to get in reverse. Sorry for the long post but does anyone have any ideas.
