Relax. The SID can give a rear light failure warning before a filament is fully burnt out. One of the filaments is likely near failure. I'd buy the replacement bulbs now.
If you mean the high mounted center brake light, it only lights when the brakes are applied.
I have had the same occurence on my 01 9-3 regarding SID bulb failure warnings, with both front and rear lights. With a headlight, though, one can usually see that it is dimmer. With rear running lights, it is harder to discern the brightness difference.
