Follow up: I checked the 2002 9-3SE from NJ state auto auction. The car looks clean, BUT, there is milky white stuff on the oil dip stick. Neither trans oil nor motor oil was clean. I told the dealer/auction guy (it is more of a dealer than aution) that the engine does not sound good and there is a lot of gunk in the dip stick, the engine is most likely in bad shape (speculating)and told him to give his best price which came down to (~6500-150+570fee)~6800$ eventually. The engine sounded a little noisy when cold, but got OK after warm up. It was not probably running for a while and hesitated starting up first time. Second third time was perfect.
I did some investigation and found out that one of the worst possibilities is blown head gasket and coolant leak causing the white stuff on the stick. I also read here that water condensation may casually cause similar stuff. I hear that a blown head gasket would cost 600 to 1600$. I don't think that the dealer really knows the car, they have a huge lot. Please give me your feed back.
