For the driver and passanger side tailights, there are pre-cut flaps or "doors" cut in to the carpet. These "doors" are about 5-inches square and are located on either side of the hatch in the interior of the trunk.
You will probably need a flashlight or trouble light to be able to see while performing the following:
> First open the carpet flap "door" over the appropriate rear signal lamp housing.
> Next reach in and remove the wiring connector and release the plastic latching tabs that hold the lamp holders (rear portion of the lamp housing) to the lamp housing.
> Withdraw the lamp holder through the carpet flap "door" to access and replace the lamp.
> Then re-install the lamp holder and the wiring connector, and close the carpet falp "door".
It is best to repalce the tail lamps in pairs, that is both the driver and passanger side at the same time. This is because the new lamp and the old lamp will have different internal filament resistance and this can cause the Saab Information Dispaly (SID) give a false failed lamp display. Also, if one lamp has burned out, the other lamp is probably going to fail fairly soon anyway.
