Engine Swap Questions

Hello All. I bought a 94 900S last week with a bad engine. Evidently what happened was the balance chain sprockets failed causing oil pump or pressure relief valve failure. Low oil pressure caused the rod bearing failure. Oil pressure sensor is dead.
So I found a 1998 engine with 89,000 miles at a local yard which I bought (ouch!) and plan to put in.
I was going to check the condition of the oil pressure relief valve and timing chain tensioner and maybe drop the pan in their parking lot before bringing it home today.
I thought it would be a good idea to work on this a bit before installing it. I was thinking I’d do the following:
1.Inspect crank and replace rod and crank bearings
2.Replace front and rear crank seals
3.Replace Timing chain
4.Inspect oil pump and relief valve.
5.Remove balance chain, shafts and anything else that has to do with it and plug oil feeds to the shafts?
6.Inspect cylinder bores from the under side as best as possible.
7.Service Tranny - oil and filter?
8.Other suggestions
I'm still waiting for my Haynes Service manual to arrive.
I am not quite sure about replacing rod and crank bearings. Would I need to have the crank bearing surfaces polished?
This is going to be my Son's car (High School). He's driving a 85 900 now.
Thanks in advance for your replies,
Brian
