I have a 98S turbo automatic with 145K miles. Just drove back from Pennsy to Mass at about 65-70mph and got 30.0 mpg avg. Tire pressures I run at
36psi. Two people on board this trip. I figure pure highway once in
a while yields 32mpg but probably at a somewhat higher outside air temp.
I don't see any difference if I use regular or high test gas either.
I use Mobil 1 10W-30. You might slightly improve milage by lightening
your car (throw out floor mats, tools, people, whatever). I'd
like to see what driving at 45mph for a long distance would do since
aerodynamic drag probably increases with the square of speed- but, then
you just cannot do that on todays highways and expect to live very long.
I think your milage is probably very close to the overall average.
Not sure what altitude and air density might do. Hot/humid days
reduce air density and that could help increase milage due to decreased
aerodynamic drag, but I'm not sure since the air/fuel mixture is also a factor.
