Put the Window half way down, grab it with both hands, and gently try and rock it front to back (toward front and back of car). If you feel excessive movement, get to a dealer. The sound could have just been the window motor banging back i place after getting jarred, but my "story" is much worse.
I had a similar experience with my 2001 9-3 vert. The cause was the internal door window track had broken free at one of the spot welds. In my case, the window would come out of the track and bind up (not raise or lower). The initial "break" in the spot weld sounded like a "bang" I was told this was a unusual problem by the dealer, but heard a different story from a few 9-3 owners at Carlisle that year.
The window track is actually sandwiched between the door halves. The halves are welded. After several attempts to get the a spot weld to hold (working though a small hold in the door frame) the final solution was to replace the entire door. Mine was (thankfully) under warranty. Would not wantt to think of the cost otherwise.
Best of luck!
