There is absolutley no justifcation for the suggestion that air would get into the brake lines as a result of routine pad or pad & rotor replacement.
The surface of pads is a bit loose and torn as new and this will feel spongy until it consolodates from heat/pressure/wear. Hard braking is often needed/recommended with new pads. New pads on old rotors creates greater needs for bedding in as the rotor surfaces are not flat.
The biggest problem of this nature is seen with DIY work where the external spring on the caliper is installed wrong and/or missing. The creates a large amount of spongy feel.
