What happened to my car?

Well on my way home from my girlfriend's house tonight I decide to jump on the freeway just for a mile or two for a little latenight jaunt. Well I get on and theres an early 90's Oldsmobile flying down the highway, about a quarter mile down I see him smash into the right side barier of the highway, sparks fly, the right side of the car jumps up in the air, but he recovers and drives away with part of his vehicle missing. I figure this guy has to be wasted so I try to follow him and get his plate number, but he gets off at a not so great area of town and its about 1:00am. So i start to follow for awhile but the road we're on is very torn up and he's still flying. Not the area I want to play chase the drunk guy!

So as soon as I turn off this road I hear thud thud thud thund, and I could feel it too. I was pretty sure I got a flat tire from the terrible road. So I really REALLY didn't want to stop in this neighboor hood to change a tire, but there is a little fire station that I pulled into, checked it out and no flat tire. So I drive the couple miles home. Check out the rims and they're not visibly bent. So what happened??? Bent tierod? Something with the axle??? It does increase with speed also.
