If you are willing to do some digging and soldering, I found an excellent way to connect directly into the radio. I took the head unit apart and found three little solder pads on the tape deck control circuitry labeled left, right and ground (or someting like that, I forget). I then soldered on an audio cable with a headphone plug on the end, and snaked it out the back. Because the head unit will not play audio through the tape player without a tape in it, you either have to put in a blank tape, or as I did, push the tape mechanism through the tape slot to the tape in position. It will then think there is a tape in the drive, and will continue to play until you hit the eject button. So all I have to do when I want to listen to my iPod is hit the tape button. This leaves the radio and cd player intact, and very easy to switch between. I realize that this may be way too invasive for your tastes, but it is a good option in my opinion, and very clean if you do it right.
