Need some input please. Posted by Don [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I purchased a 1997 Saab 900s about 6 months ago. The car has performed very well since the purchase. The previous owner had mentioned that the back brakes needed to be replaced before I purchased the vehicle, and I figured, no biggie.
Well, the time has come to get it into the shop and have this problem taken care of. Told the shop what needed to be done, and they quoted me a price of $330.00 for the back brakes alone! They also said that the emergency brake cable(s) needed replacing also at $276.00! along with the inspection and oil change of the vehicle, we are talking $700.I only paid $1,500 for the car to begin with. Also believe that I need the AC looked at, as it is not blowing any cold air. That seems like a lot of money to me, especially when I believe I can do these repairs myself.
So, I said all that to ask, Is there a special procedure that needs to take place to install these back brakes, and this emergency cable(s)? I have never owned a Saab, but I have replaced several brakes on a various array of vehicles in my lifetime. Would also like to know if there is a special oil that I should use in the car or filter or etc.? Just trying to get this information to continue to have a nice running vehicle. This car has 150,000K on it,just for your information.
I would appreciate any and all help that you may give me, and thanks in advance.
