Ah, I see. It could be multiple things from the loading system not loading the cd correctly so the laser cannot read the cd directory - it therefore thinks there is no cd present - doesn't do anything if you hit play. It could be the logic circuit screwing up. It could be a bad laser that can't read correctly. Based on the previous problem with not being able to eject, I would suspect the mechanical system first - logic circuit and laser problems are a little rare, though it does happen. You can try cleaning your laser lens, but I doubt that's the problem.
NEVER heard of a cd problem from the player reading the "barcode" from a library cd (I am assuming they meant the scribed id coding close to the hub of the cd that's laser etched and not some kind of regular sticker bar code).
