Get someone to move the steering wheel back and forth with the engine off and hood up. Clean dry pavement. Move the wheel until the point where the tire wants to scrub on the pavement, but no more.
Reach under and look/feel for movement in the three control arm bushings, ball joint, tie-rod ends and steering rack to firewall. Early strut mounts were exposed, but yours has black caps on top. Remove the three fasteners, remove caps, reapply fasteners. Repeat test, watch for movement of the strut top. Observe cracks in rubber of that strut top mount. Replace parts. These fasteners are small, do not overtighten, some have busted the studs by being heavy handed.
Jack up front wheel, and grab at top and bottom trying to get movement in ball joint or wheel bearing. Rotate and see if bearing feels odd. Grab at 9 and 3 o'clock and feel for slackness (need other wheel on the pavement).
Front subframe fasteners can also be loose and create some problems. Jack up and look for signs of movement where frame is bolted to painted body parts. Some dusty rust deposits can be a sign of coupled wear and rust actions.
