A call for wisdom.... my '95 900 (V-6) has a differential problem: the driver's side drive cup (for the DS cv shaft) has a marked amount of lateral play... more than 1/4 of an inch, from front to back. Very sloppy!! The dealer has the bushing which, they say, is wearing/ worn out in the differential carrier inside the diff. All right... maybe the entire diff has to be removed from car and dismantled just to get at the differential carrier and bushing, OR Maybe a special tool gets made that attempts to remove this bushing, in situ. But my question is (at least the Big question is!!): was the bushing, when it was originally installed at the factory, press-fitted OR was it "sweated" in? If the latter, there's no sense trying to pull the worn bushing in situ because I would have to dismantle the diff/tranny anyway so as to get the new one in.
Does any one of my fellow colleagues in Saab appreciation have experience with this matter? Or should I just give the job to a transmission shop?
Best regards, rob
