Won't Start - CPS? Not DI or FP

My wife took the 99 9-3 (114K) for an errand, came back out and the car didn't start. Not running odd beforehand and no other starting issues. The DI is newer and I removed and it didn't smell (I know what THAT smell).
I tested the fuel pump by hot-wiring - pump runs. The FP does NOT run when the key is turned - which to me indicates that the Crankshaft Position Sensor isn't telling the fuel pump that it's OK to pump?
After cranking, the car seems to backfire or "lurch" like it's in gear just briefly. I hope to pick up the part today and then try to replace (car sitting in a parking lot).
I searched for the CPS replacement instructions but couldn't find anything with any details. Can anyone help instruct where it is and how to replace (tools req'd?).
Thanks so much - this site has been a great help in the past and was one big reason I bought an '02 9-5 Aero this spring. Love it BTW!
