Finally got the AC in our 900 working. This was the one where one of the front aluminum pipes that run under the radiator had gotten damaged, and I soldered it up last fall with lumiweld rather than replacing it, but never got the system running before it got too cool to care. The problem I'd been having getting it recharged turned out to be that you have to vacuum these systems from both ports simulataneously, and I was trying to do it from just the LP side. $40 got me a proper gauge set from Harbor Freight which, along with the $8 vacuum pump I already had, did the job and the system now works fine.
Only thing is, when I was putting everything back together after charging, I noticed the shrader valve in the LP port was bubbling after I removed the filling adaptor. I pressed it a few times and managed to get it to where it was hardly leaking at all, but couldn't stop it altogether. .Replacing it would require draining the system.
So what I am wondering, is, is that plastic cap that goes over the port going to be enough to keep the pressure in, or should I be taking more drastic measures?
