Recent clutch cable replacement - opinion sought (long)

I heard my wife pull up to the house yesterday, followed by a large "boom". The clutch cable broke as she was putting the car into reverse to shut it off.
Fortunately I had a spare cable in the trunk, awaiting this day. About two hours work (the coathanger double hook tool for the pedal retaining spring is awesome!), we're back in business. Clutch pedal doesn't seem any more stiff than it has been in the last 100K miles. The failure point of the cable assembly was actually a piece of broken plastic, not the cable itself.
Here's my main concern: There was some black oily/dirt 'junk' mixed with what i think was AC condensate under the car. Small circle about 4 inches diameter. Could it have been shaken loose by the violent drop of the clutch?
I drove it about a mile listening for anything fishy and ran it through all the gears. Seems fine so far. Anyone think the junk should be a concern?
