E-code no doubt, but... Posted by ChuckD [Email] (#2127) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ChuckD) on Fri, 23 Jun 2006 21:07:09 In Reply to: Headlamp Lens Covers, PDX Saab, Thu, 22 Jun 2006 14:23:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey Wesley,
I converted my wife's '01 9-3SE to e-code (housings actually, you can't just do the lens). It was the second time I'd done this to one of our cars so I sorta knew what to expect. Yes, it's worth it but I'd also suggest considering upping the wattage bulb you use. The first time I did it was to my old Nissan 240SX. I also installed 80/100W bulbs and to quote another Saaber, hitting the brights brought on 'the light of day'. Aiming is critical because the e-codes have such a pronounced horizontal cut-off that is what keeps them from blinding drivers ahead of you.
The thing is, it's advised that you also upgrade the wiring with a dedicated cicuit and and add seperate dedicated relays. I did this on the Nissan because it was easy. The Saab's another story and I've yet to change the bulbs for this reason and having seen the e-codes with standard 55W bulbs I'm inclined to believe they really need more watts.
See Dan Stern's site for good technical detail on how the upgrade works and parts.
